About My Business

Melanie moved to Alaska in 1994 after her dad retired from the Airforce making Alaska her home. She graduated from Service High School and soon landed a job working for the school district for over a decade. During this time, she went on to pursue a degree in Psychology and Human Services from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Melanie has always been an animal lover but didn't realize it takes more than love to build a strong relationship until she “foster failed” her 6 month old German Shepherd named Hera. Luckily that same year she landed an amazing job opportunity working at a doggie daycare.

Having 4 dogs already (Tucker, Chloe, Tiger, and Mimi) all who are well into retirement age and never owning a working breed; life was about to get interesting.

Hera craved structure and wanted to work. It was up to Melanie to make that happen.

She was not treat motivated making training extremely difficult and needed more than just a walk around the neighborhood. Never being a huge outdoorsy type of person Melanie was willing to do anything for love so she slowly began walking the trails and exploring every new place possible.

Each time going to a new trail going longer and eventually conquering mountains. Along with taking numerous dog classes and what feels like thousands of one on one training sessions made the first 3 YEARS like we were going nowhere but with consistent perseverance Hera began to tremendously improve. It was like a switch that finally flipped.

Melanie contributes working for the school district, continuing her education, the doggie daycare, training sessions, and consistency; making Hera one of her biggest successes.
