About My Business

Critter Care is the accidental result of a career change.

My husband and I both had very stressful jobs. He as a chef and partner in an off-premise catering business and me as a program analyst. Since Ron often worked weekends and holidays, I volunteered at a local zoo where weekends and holidays turned into an 8 year stint as a full time volunteer animal keeper after my corporate job was downsized.

At the zoo, I was introduced to a huge variety of animals, from spiders and bats to snakes and timber wolves. After a few years, I eventually earned the privilege to work as a small mammal wildlife rehabilitator. Rehabbing was a lot of hard work, but a great joy, which I continued for 20 years out of my home.

After leaving the zoo, my life was defined by animals and their care. I worked briefly for 2 Veterinarians, managed a pet store for 3 years, volunteered at 2 animal shelters and worked hand in hand with local animal control. While working at the pet store, a customer asked me to walk her sweet pit bull at lunch time. After 3 months and a few more customer/clients, I left the pet store and Critter Care was born.

After Ron sold his business, he eventually started working with me. By coincidence, his first client was my first client, Sarah the sweet pit bull.

Over the years, we've expanded Critter Care from dog walking to playdates and daycare at our home as well as long and short term boarding, Because we don't discriminate against dog breeds, all pets must be dog friendly to guarantee a place in our home, where they are free to roam without the confines of a crate, We will also do sleepovers at a client's house if circumstances require it.

Our services start with a meet and greet, either at the client house or ours, where we meet your pets and take detailed notes regarding their care. Our services don't start and end with Fido or Fluffy. We take in the mail, newspapers and packages, rotate shades and alternate lighting, water plants and occasionally shovel snow. These services are provided to ensure that your house still looks occupied while you're away. We also provide round trip pet transportation to the Vet or groomer.

We've mentored several sitters entering into the field and maintain a good working relationship with the other sitters in our area, often helping out so our fellow sitters can take a much needed break.

The purpose of Critter Care is to ensure the safety and well being of your pets while guaranteeing your piece of mind when you're not there.
