About My Business

My name is Lewis Horowitz and welcome to C. Barley Pet Services. I would love tell you a little about myself and my qualifications for being an animal care provider. I grew up on a farm in upstate New York with several cats, dogs and even a horse. I enjoyed caring and nurturing for each and every one of them. I went on to college and received a BS in Health Education from Ithaca College and an AS degree in Mortuary Science from Hudson Valley Community College in 1998. I spent the next 18 years as a Licensed Funeral Director beginning here in Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Florida, Virginia, and Maryland. The reason I want to open a pet sitting business started when my wife and I adopted two cats (Teena, and the late Charley "Barley") on our one year wedding anniversary. A short time later friends were relocating out of state for work and could not bring their cat Rosie with them, so we offered to take her in and care for her as one of our own! I absolutely love all of our kitties, but Charley “Barley” for whatever reason had a special part of my heart. Charley “Barley” became ill and passed away on March 4, 2017 to The Rainbow Bridge (Unknown Author 1980). I took Charley’s “Barley” death very hard and something in me that day took a shift. I knew from that day on that I wanted to take care of animals for the rest of my life; to love, care, nurture, and protect them. My education, training and prior career experiences helped me to hone qualities and attributes that will assist me running a successful pet care business.

Sharon and I decided to move back to Bluffton, to be closer to family and because this is the perfect location to start our business and to make sure it is a success!
