Pet care that fits the needs of your family:

There are times when devoted families need support in caring for their pets. People may not be able to spend as much time with their companion animals during the day or evening as they want or or the animal needs; some are looking for a friendly and knowledgable staff and convenient location to purchase quality foods, treats, supplements, household supplies, toys and active gear. Others look for activities to help their dog become a better canine citizen; and there are people who just want to have a good time with their dog among others who feel the same way about their best friend. Animal Zen is ready to help.

Not every dog or cat benefits from the same level of activity. Running and playing are fun and important ways of socialization for many dogs, and the Animal Zen day care center has plenty of space for those. But others thrive by being in close contact with people, whether it’s hanging out in the administrative office or taking a car ride during midday visits.

“Live and Learn” day care provides significant socialization with people. Dogs develop skills, including politely meeting and greeting people who visit the Animal Zen Center. They can enjoy quiet interaction in an office setting, and also work on front-window etiquette while observing the outside world. Our staff works with the daycare crowd so that dogs not only exercise, but also develop confidence in new situations. Dogs who need some down time can take a nap or meditate in the quiet room. Most dogs learn to gauge their own needs for breaks from group activities. And for those who need more observation or physical care, or for very young puppies, this separate space allows quiet and controlled stimulation.

For cats and dogs who do better in their own living environment, Animal Zen staff members make home visits, providing comfort, care, exercise, mental stimulation and human company.

When travel for vacation or work takes pet parents out of town and away from their animal family, Animal Zen provides in-home care; offering personal contact, familiar food, regular exercise and a comfortable routine. Options include dogs staying at the home of Animal Zen, a member of the Animal Zen staff visiting the pet’s home, or an Animal Zen staff member staying overnight with the pets. Care includes feeding, interaction, and appropriate exercise.

Low-stress grooming, hydro-spa and fitness sessions:

Animal Zen is mindful of animals’ needs when it comes to physical comfort, condition and appearance. Grooming in a low-stress environment can make a world of difference to a dog or cat who has become anxious or resistant to the contact grooming requires. With attention to the particular sensitivities of each animal and by allowing dogs time to socialize (if they enjoy the company of other dogs), the whole grooming process is done at a pace that gives the animal ease. Older animals get special attention to sore joints or other specific concerns.

To give animals the experience of a warm bubbly spa, Animal Zen has a hydrotherapy tub that can loosen tired muscles. The tub allows for movement without putting full weight on sore joints, making exercise easier.

Animal Zen’s fitness equipment, including balance equipment, obstacles, jumps, an incline treadmill and supervised swimming pool, provides dogs opportunities for strengthening muscles, increasing stamina and and improving balance. Individual goals can be set and progress tracked by the client’s veterinarian or through consultation at Animal Zen. Fitness equipment use is by appointment and can be combined with a visit to the hydrotherapy tub or day care.

Enriching classes & Tellington TTouch® consultations:

Animal Zen loves knowing each pet and also delights in seeing pets and their people spending quality time together. Created particularly for dog parents, Animal Zen’s enrichment classes and workshops develop human-animal bonds through skill-building and games. Seeing a tentative dog blossom into a confident explorer, or watching an accomplished dog learning new skills while having fun is inspiring and exciting. Enrichment activities at Animal Zen create opportunities for dogs and handlers to grown into a deeper relationship with each other while both learn new skills.

Enrichment opportunities at Animal Zen abound, with several events each week, including traditional classes on many topics ranging from the needs of puppies and their people through the care, stimulation, and comfort for dogs who have entered their “golden years.” Drop-in classes on special topics provide new ways to stimulate and engage dogs and their handlers and can be attended on a regular basis or as a single or occasional activity. Limited enrollment allows for individualized attention for the person and the dog.

Another enrichment opportunity is designed for people who might be too busy to attend a training class with their dog. PAWS-itive Approach Skills Camp is intensive training, where a limited number of dogs work with multiple trainers to develop and strengthen the skills required to be great family dogs. In addition to skills development, each camp day offers some play time with compatible companions.

Tellington TTouch® helps people and their pets overcome stress and anxiety and build confidence to handle difficult and unfamiliar situations. Tellington TTouch is a training and relaxation method that is practiced internationally, enhancing the relationship between human and animals by building trust and respect. Our recognized practitioner provides consultations and teaches techniques of TTouch using methods that improve physical, emotional, and mental balance.

TTouch can be experienced as private consultations (at our location or in the pet’s home), during a drop-in enrichment class (Hands, Hearts and PAWS) with dog and human being guided through mindful touch and relaxation, or by participating in a full-day workshop (offered throughout the year) that provides an introduction to Tellington TTouch.

Specialized solutions for dogs and cats:

Offering a wide range of expertise, Animal Zen takes the time needed to understand each animal’s situation in order to assist in choosing appropriate products. For dogs and cats suffering with anxiety, Animal Zen offers solutions that do not rely on medication and the staff is happy to consult with you about the best product for a particular need. Puppies and kittens benefit from early lifestage and developmental products. For the aging pet, Animal Zen has products designed to support stability, ease achey joints and muscles, and maintain healthy heart and brain function.

With the support of Animal Zen staff, pet parents can choose nutritional foods and treats that match their dogs’ and cats’ stage of life, sensitivities, and protein preferences. To meet a range of life-style needs, food options are available in dry, moist or canned preparations. Nutritionally balanced raw diets are available in frozen, dehydrated, or freeze-dried varieties. All of the diets come in a range of flavors, providing healthy meals to even the fussiest of eaters.

Who doesn’t love a good treat? Animal Zen has plenty of choices: long-lasting chews, high-value training rewards, meaty treats, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, and healthy and delicious cookies using the highest quality ingredients. Animal Zen also carries a number of “functional treats,” tasty rewards that are use specific ingredients that can be used to improve the health and quality of life of your dog or cat.

Supplements available at Animal Zen provide allergy relief, joint support, skin and coat enhancement, dental health, and overall wellness. Specialized shampoos, conditioners, brushes and combs are available to keep each dog or cat looking its best. Clients can make their households as healthy as their pets with enzyme-based odor cleaners, flushable cat litter, gentle-on-the-paws ice melter, and all-natural salves and insect repellants.

Active gear, games and toys at Animal Zen encourage an intentional partnership between dogs, cats and their people. Harnesses, collars and leashes are available in a variety of materials, styles and sizes. Outdoor gear including backpacks, life vests and lined jackets; water bottles, cooling collars and all-season protection for sensitive feet are also available.
