About My Business

I have been a petsitter and dogwalker full time since starting Walkies! in 2001. Every walk is a new adventure, and I really enjoy getting to know the pets I care for. Working with animals is interesting to me because while routine and consistency is important, this job offers a lot of different experiences!

When I started my work back in 2001, I figured I would just be putting on leashes and picking up poop. I never realized that my job would come to include welcoming newborn puppies, taking care of an elderly dachshund for a month while its owner was in the hospital, walking a colicky horse around in freezing snow at midnight while waiting for the vet, or rescuing abandoned kittens. Then there was the time a dog had an interesting bowel reaction to a new medication while the owners were away, and I spent a few hours trying to clean up their white carpet. (In case you’re wondering, that’s a job best left to professional cleaners. But at least it smelled better!)

I really love that by being there for daily walks, I can keep an elderly client and her dog together.

I treasure the times I read epic poetry aloud to a shy cat who finally comes from under the bed to say hello.

I'm so proud of the dog that come flying down the stairs to greet me and walks trustingly by my side, when a year ago, he was a terrified semi-feral pup huddled in the corner of a backyard and scared of everything.

My job is so much more than holding a leash and picking up poop. And I am so grateful to my clients and their pets for letting me be part of their lives.
