Pet Sitters International employees celebrate milestone anniversaries with an eye to the future

Three association employees are celebrating 15- and 20-year work anniversaries, as they continue to provide professional pet sitters with the best in business tools and educational resources.

KING, N.C. (October 9, 2019) — Three long-time Pet Sitters International (PSI) employees are celebrating milestone work anniversaries this year, as the association celebrates 25 years of leading the way in professional pet-sitter education.

PSI, the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters and dog walkers, was founded in 1994 by Patti J. Moran and celebrated its 25th anniversary in March. For over half the company’s 25 years, three current employees have been working to ensure that PSI member pet sitters receive the best in business tools and educational resources.

Employees celebrating milestone work anniversaries in 2019 include:

  • Michelle Boles, graphics and web content manager, 20-year anniversary
  • Debbie Leonard, manager of office systems and information technology, 15-year anniversary
  • Beth Stultz-Hairston, vice-president of marketing and operations, 15-year anniversary

“When you have three employees with such institutional longevity managing various aspects of the organization’s operations, it creates a sense of stability and a strong foundation of knowledge that benefits both pet sitters and the industry at large,” said PSI Founder and President Patti J. Moran. “I am grateful for the dedicated service these employees have provided to PSI and its members.”

“These employees have seen the professional pet-sitting industry evolve and grow over the past few decades, but they’re not just focused on the past,” Moran continued. “They’re looking to the future and harnessing their insight and experience to help 21st century pet sitters grow their businesses and thrive in their ever-changing local economies.”

All three employees said technology has been the biggest area of change they have seen in the pet-care industry over the years.

“When I first started to work here we were still sending out paper print-ready pet-sitting service contracts,” Leonard recalled.

As technology has evolved, PSI has embraced it to better serve members and provide new continuing education opportunities—from online certificate programs to a monthly online learning subscription.

“PSI has remained at the forefront and continues to provide members with access to the most up-to-date tools and educational opportunities to start and grow their businesses,” Boles said. “It’s been amazing to see how advances in technology have allowed PSI to immediately alert our members to best practices through social media and to provide them with new resources, including Pet Owner’s World, a digital magazine they can share with their clients.”

PSI and its pet sitters’ willingness to adapt and grow has not only benefited the pet-care industry, but pet owners and pets as well.

“The ability to embrace technology while still keeping the personal touch that is necessary in pet sitting has been one of the biggest strengths of our organization and our members,” Stultz-Hairston said.
