Pet Sitters International names 2018 Pet Adoption Advocate of the Year

The association recognizes Mary Wilson, owner of All God’s Creatures in Montgomery, Ala., for her efforts to promote and support local pet adoptions.

KING, N.C. (June 18, 2018)—Pet Sitters International (PSI), the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters, has named Mary Wilson, owner of All God’s Creatures in Montgomery, Ala., as PSI’s 2018 Pet Adoption Advocate of the Year.

Since 1999, PSI has promoted pet adoptions through its annual Take Your Dog To Work Day® campaign. To further this mission, PSI created the Pet Adoption Advocate of the Year Award in 2012 to honor one PSI member each year who has gone above and beyond to promote local pet adoptions. PSI makes a $500 donation to the animal shelter or pet-rescue group of the recipient’s choice.

Wilson says she is “so excited” to have been named PSI’s 2018 Pet Adoption Advocate of the Year and simply “entered on the outside chance that TAG would get the prize.” That Animal Group (TAG) is the pet-rescue organization Wilson has selected to receive a $500 donation from PSI in her honor.

That Animal Group (TAG) is a Montgomery, Ala. based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals. TAG’s current projects include a Meals-on-Wheels pet food project, legislative advocacy, assisting with animal rescues in the River Region, and the care and maintenance of several feral cat colonies in the area.

“PSI received award submissions from members across the United States and Canada who, in addition to pet sitting, work year-round to promote adoptions and improve the lives of adoptable pets in their communities,” said PSI President Patti J. Moran. “Selecting only one member to receive the 2018 award was no easy task, but PSI was impressed with Wilson’s lifelong commitment to helping pets in need.”

Wilson helped found TAG more than eight years ago as a ministry through her home church, Dalraida United Methodist Church, and says the organization has been responsible for “funding hundreds of animals in need of food, shelter, adoption and medical care due to injuries, neglect and abuse.”

TAG’s reach is not limited to helping domestic dogs and cats. The organization also assists with the exploding feral cat community by performing TNR (trap, neuter and return/release) and relocating cat colonies. TAG also provides dog and cat food to assist their local homeless population with pets and contributes to other organizations that transport pets to be adopted in northern states.

“There are hundreds of stories of how we’ve sought to help pets in need,” said Wilson. “TAG is home to many like-minded animal lovers who put their time and effort into carrying out the mission of animal advocacy.”
