Third annual Pet-Sitter Education Month™ shines spotlight on continuing education

This September, Pet Sitters International is highlighting the growing number of educational resources available to today’s professional pet sitters.

KING, N.C. (August 29, 2018) — This September marks the third annual Pet-Sitter Education Month™, a month-long effort created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) to shine a spotlight on professional pet sitters’ commitment to continuing education and on the growing number of educational resources available to today’s professional pet sitters and dog walkers.

PSI, the world’s largest and leading educational association for professional pet sitters, is celebrating Pet-Sitter Education Month by offering special discounts Sept. 1-30 on PSI ebooks, online courses and other products in PSI’s online store. PSI is also offering a discount for PSI members who register by Sept. 15 for the CPPS—Certified Professional Pet Sitter® exam—the first-ever knowledge-assessed examination specifically for the pet-sitting industry.

“While the misperception of pet sitters as the ‘kid down the street’ or the ‘pet lover looking for extra cash on the side’ still exists, we find that PSI’s pet-sitting members are full-time pet-sitting professionals and 89 percent have completed at least some college,” said PSI Founder and President Patti J. Moran. “More and more professional pet sitters are also taking advantage of industry-specific trainings and pursuing credentials such as the CPPS designation.”

To make it easier for busy pet-care professionals to pursue ongoing education, PSI launched a new service earlier this year: PETSIT PRO, an online training subscription that allows pet sitters to receive access to dozens of pet-sitter training courses, with new courses added monthly.

“More than three decades ago when I started pet sitting, there were no pet-sitting specific resources available to me,” Moran explained. “That’s why it has always been so important to me that PSI provides members with easy-to-access educational tools—from books and our member magazine to our certification exam and member webinars—to improve their businesses and the services they provide to clients.”

PSI’s website, www.petsit.com, is the top online educational resource available to those in the industry. PSI was founded in 1994 by Moran, author of Pet Sitting for Profit, and the association’s motto is “Pet-sitting excellence through education.”

To assist professional pet sitters in taking advantage of educational opportunities in the industry, PSI’s Pet-Sitter Education Month section on petsit.com includes links to pet-sitter webinars, ebooks, downloads and other resources.
